Other than a photo on my bike ride home, I haven't posted a blog since the first of the year. Oh dear, what's going on? Last year I was quite prolific, at least for me... It's not that nothing is happening this year; maybe I am just adjusting to being back in Australia and back…
Life at the documentation factory and other December observations
I am currently easing back into work after nearly 3 months off (refer http://tenweeksinitaly.wordpress.com/) with a few odd jobs. Some of my work mates will be going on well-earned leave for up to 4 weeks and I'll be odd jobbing and helping out around the department. This week I have been updating our policies (one…
The pleasures of home
Today is my last day off before going back to work. I have been off since the 3rd of September, with most of my time off spent in Italy. Travelling is great, there is no doubt about that in my mind. Here's a favourite quote of mine: Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness,…
Sticky date pudding at the Prince Albert
Thanks again Pete. As if the chunky rissoles weren't enough. Roo and I shared the dessert, which was light and sweet and warming on this cold Adelaide winter night.
Lunch in Chinatown
Saturday lunch at Chinatown Cafe, Moonta Street Adelaide. Hainanese chicken rice. This meal is always a winner. The ginger pieces in the rice make it slightly aromatic, the broth is just right, the chicken and Asian greens (bok choy usually) steamed to perfection.
Signs of Spring

Light through wet winter branches, Adelaide
I walked through Victoria Square this evening on my way home and was struck by the beauty of the bare branches, wet from the earlier rain. The light made them look icy but it's not cold enough here for ice. Surely the worst of winter, such as it is in Adelaide, is over. The Greek…
Beauty is everywhere
Life is full of beautiful moments and sights. Sometimes you just need to look in your own back yard. The Adelaide summer has brought out the best in this Bougainvillea plant in our garden. It starts out slightly coppery and then goes hot pink. I am overwhelmed by its capacity to bloom about 9 months…
Russell’s Pizza, Willunga, South Australia
Finally...we got a booking at Russell's. This rustic old cottage and converted shed on the Fleurieu peninsula of South Australia is the hottest place to be on a Friday evening, year-round. We were seated inside the old cottage at a wicker lounge area and ate antipasti followed by pizzas cooked in Russell's hand-built brick ovens.…
