Always take the advice of a trusted local when it comes to dining in Padova. Thanks for the the suggestion that we try Osteria dal Capo, Lucia! The stuffed zucchini flower was beautiful and delicious. My minestra with cozze (mussels) and tortellini di sepia (filled with ricotta) broke all the rules I’ve learned about not combining seafood and cheese. The dish qualifies as a Culinary Bliss Point. And the local house sparkling wine was a perfect lunchtime accompaniment. #culinaryblisspoint #weareinveneto #weareinpadova #padua #lourooitaly2019

Last night we met up with friends Holly and Jim (who I met 3 years ago in Lecce while studying Italian). They gave us a walking tour of their Padova and we dined together. The medieval piazzas are so charming and the city seems very livable. #weareinveneto #lourooitaly2019 #padua #padova

We rolled into Larino a few days ago hoping to do some laundry as well as visit the Centro Storico, cathedral and see the amphitheatre. As it happened, the laundromat was closed due to the final day of celebration for local patron San Pardo. The festa closes with a 3 km long bullock cart parade through the new and old towns. What a spectacle. The carts have a long history and are handed down through generations of families. This particular parade has been going on since the year 842. The houses are decorated with banners and flags and there is music and food. We happened on some vendors selling a local specialty called Pampanella, pork marinated in hot chili and oil then cooked in the oven with red wine. It becomes soft and has a pleasant spicy taste. At street festivals it is served on a roll. Very satisfying. So we left Larino with dirty clothes but we met many kind people, ate well and learned of an ancient Molisano tradition. #weareinmolise #lourooitaly2019 #sanpardo2019

Look up in Agnone and you’ll be treated to these crests or shields or whatever they are called. They appear to be purely decorative, not heraldic or family crests. After a beautiful day, this evening has been showery. But with every cloud comes a silver lining. 🌈 We took the opportunity to relax at our breakfast cafe, Cafe Letterario, with a cuppa to soothe Roo’s sore throat. There are books stacked everywhere and I spied one of my faves, Kerouac’s On the Road (Sulla Strada). The perfect book for a trip where you have pre-booked little and have the freedom to just roll into a town and find a bed for the night (or longer if that feels right). Where you let the weather determine your plan for the day. We have had a few really memorable dining experiences in the last ten days and today was another. After the Teatro Sannite (Samnite Ampitheatre) at #Pietrabbondante we fancied a spot of lunch. To be honest, the dining options where we are staying in Agnone appear to be limited to very up- or very down-market. So we opted for lunch while driving the countryside. We started with cacio e uovo, which we have had in the round form previously, but these were sausage-shaped. Made with egg and cheese and served in a sugo. Next I had a bean soup and Roo handmade gnocchi with Gorgonzola and rucola. For mains we had a cinghiale (wild boar) chop with roasted peppers, homemade country-style pork sausages and a big ole plate of chicory with aglio, olio e peperoncino. Sweets were offered but we had no room and just ordered a coffee each. Oh and there was local red wine. The bill was an amazingly small €35. #greatbreadtoo #weareinmolise and loving it. #lourooitaly2019 PS if anyone has dining suggestions for lunch on weekends in Agnone, we are open to suggestions.
